ARHN Community Health Assessment and Online Resource Directory
Adirondack Rural Health Network (2004)
Project Links: WEB
This Community Health Assessment is presented to the residents and organizations of Essex, Hamilton, Saratoga, Warren, and Washington counties as a working document for use in developing partnerships and strategies to address priority community health issues. The goal of the Community Health Assessment for the Adirondack Rural Health Network was to identify what matters to local residents about their health and to highlight their concerns about health issues and services in their own communities. A related goal was to create an online directory of health services for the five-county area. Holmes & Associates developed a new website for the rural health network to provide easy access to the health assessment data, reports, and online resource directory.
Evaluating Local Health Service Delivery Priorities in the Southeastern Adirondack Region - A Community-Based Approach
Southeastern Adirondack Health Care Services and Moses-Ludington Hospital (1999)
Project Links: WEB
The Southeastern Adirondack Health Care System (SAHCS), a coalition of providers serving residents of the greater Ticonderoga area, contracted for a series of community workshop focus groups to learn what local citizens consider to be the major health care service priorities in their communities. Community members in Crown Point, Hague, Moriah, Putnam and Ticonderoga, as well as specific groups (e.g., teachers, civic organizations, labor groups) were invited to participate in the workshops. The goal of the sessions was to clearly identify priority health care service needs in each community. Two Saranac Lake consultants with prior experience serving these communities -- Jack Drury of Leading EDGE and Tim Holmes of Holmes & Associates -- designed and facilitated the workshops. A principle goal of SAHCS is to develop and maintain an on-going collaborative, community-wide process that provides the opportunity for broad-based health needs identification. This series of workshops provided the opportunity for all community members to help direct the growth of a reliable, responsive health care system in their area.
Tri-County Community Health Assessment
Essex, Clinton and Franklin County Health Departments (1998)
Project Links: WEB
This eight-month project was the first multi-county health assessment in the area. The corner stone of this project was a series of public meeting focus groups on priority health care issues organized by Holmes & Associates in 10 communities throughout the three county area. The report summarized priority health issues in local communities, presented relevant local data in relation to state and national averages, and highlighted opportunities for partnerships to address pressing health issues and priority prevention opportunities.
Children's Mental Health Services Study
NYS Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc., Albany NY (1994-95)
Project Links:
The purpose of this study was to examine the systems of care available to children with Serious Emotional Disturbances (SED) and their families living in rural settings. In order to better understand how these systems perform in rural areas, we interviewed families in Essex and Herkimer counties about their problems and their experiences in obtaining services to help them care for their children. The results from this study will be used to guide program planning, policy development, and allocation of funds for mental health services for children with SED and their families, in rural areas in New York State and nationwide. We administered the hour-long in home interviews to a portion of the study sample in Essex County.
Nursing Course Evaluation Project
North Country Community College (1993)
Project Links:
The purpose of this project was to evaluate the educational effectiveness of nursing coursework at North Country Community College. Ms. Clark designed the pre- and post-test instrument that was administered to 36 nursing students. Holmes & Associates performed data compilation and statistical analysis of the results. We analyzed the data along 16 clinical areas of study, 6 cognitive levels, and 4 demographic variables.
